| By 1916, three bridges over the Santa Ana River had been destroyed by floods. In that year, the mission style was introduced into a replacement two-lane cement arch bridge. By 1930, two lanes were insufficient, so doubling the bridge's width became an opportunity to beautify the City's western entry. The Indian Raincross-- as seen on streetlights and balustrades-- was originally a trademark of the Mission Inn but was used by the city on streetlights as early as 1905. |
